Bombardier builds new $670M private jet manufacturing facility in Mississauga

Bombardier is replacing the facility at Downsview Park, which was built in the 1960s, with the new complex, which is located at Pearson Airport.

According to Bombardier, the $670 million assembly plant is the most “advanced private jet manufacturing facility in the world.”

Ledcor is working on the project.

The 770,000-square-foot facility sits on 41 acres of land and includes two purpose-built facilities: a 650,000-square-foot assembly building and 120,000-square-foot flight test hangar next door.

The company sold the Downsview site in 2018 and construction on the new Bombardier private jet facility began in 2019.

The new site is significantly smaller than the Downsview site and will reduce Bombardier’s environmental footprint.

“Aside from the obvious technology and economic benefits, this new manufacturing centre is also a superb example of climate conscious land use and design,” said Mississauga-Lakeshore MP Charles Sousa. “The facility is expected to have a carbon footprint less than half of that at the former Downsview site.”

About 1,200 employees have already moved from the Downsview facility and begun working on the production line.

The facility is expected to be operational by the middle of this year.
